From Clint Willour's introduction "A Little Night Magic".
These twenty-six sets of Fairgrounds lettered A through Z plus four artist proofs constitute the final copies from the 2008 first printing of five hundred. Each set preserves the original publication—twenty-four pages with twenty-six tri-tone plates, hand-sewn as a single signature. Designed by Sean Perry and Jace Graf, introduction by the late curator Clint Willour, and conversation with art director Gregory Wakabayashi.
The custom drop spine box, fabricated in 2025 from Japanese Asahi book cloth over archival board with foil-stamped spine, houses the original together with Crazy Dance, a numbered and signed carbon ink print from the Fairgrounds series not included in the 2008 publication. Ryujin, 2 × 2 inches on washi, is inlaid in the cover.
In addition to notable private collections, Fairgrounds is held in the permanent collections of Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; The Menil Collection; Seattle Art Museum; Amon Carter Museum of American Art; The Wittliff Collections; and Special Collections, Yale University.
Design by Sean Perry and Kaoru Perry. Box fabrication by Kaoru Perry and Jace Graf at Cloverleaf Studio, Austin, Texas.
